3 Organic Ways to Grow Your Business

Why I’m Choosing Organic Growth

As a bootstrapping founder, I’m always looking for ways to grow Pearl Spark Pages in a budget-friendly way. Friends and mentors often suggest Meta ads, influencer partnerships, or paying to be a vendor at events. And while those strategies absolutely can work, they’re not the intentional story I want to build.

I’m super grateful for my friend Jess Gleim who always drops truth bombs around whether or not product-based businesses are truly ready for ads. Her perspective has reminded me that ads aren’t a shortcut; they’re a strategy that only works when the foundation is strong. For Pearl Spark Pages, I want the story to be about building organically, through relationships and persistence, not just paid placements.

With my 20-year background as a publicist, I think about the story I want to tell about Pearl Spark Pages five years from now. I want it to be compelling because it was built organically; through community, connections, and conversations.

When I was doing my Q4 reflection at the end of last December, I realized how much resilience and celebrating wins matter in sustaining growth. That same practice of journaling; whether you’re just starting with Journaling for Beginners or exploring the deeper benefits in The Benefits of Journaling for Entrepreneurs has shown me that intention and reflection are as critical to organic growth as any strategy. These moments of pause remind us that building sustainably isn’t just about numbers; it’s about the story we’re writing as founders.

Why Organic Growth Matters

Organic growth isn’t just a feel-good strategy; it’s proven to drive long-term success. Research from Semrush shows that more than half of all website traffic comes from organic search, making SEO one of the most powerful growth drivers available. (And of course, now add AEO and GEO to the mix!)

Harvard Business Review highlights how community-driven businesses consistently outperform competitors because they build loyalty and advocacy that paid ads can’t replicate. And Entrepreneur emphasizes that networking and warm introductions often lead to more visibility opportunities than cold pitching or paid placements. Together, these insights validate what I’ve experienced firsthand: organic growth builds trust, sustainability, and a brand story that lasts.

And here’s the thing; organic growth isn’t just about numbers, it’s about building confidence and clarity as a founder. That’s why I created the Female Founders Journal. It felt like I was chasing knowledge and mentorship when really what I needed to focus on was self-trust. So I did that through journaling and am so excited to see the real, tangible results of what’s that’s built within a year?

My 3 Cs of Organic Growth

Through my journey building Pearl Spark Pages, I’ve discovered three organic strategies that consistently move the needle in my business, my 3 Cs: community, connections, and conversations. Each one has played a pivotal role in helping me grow without ads, and they can do the same for you.

Community: Building Deeply Invested Support

When we launched our Kickstarter campaign, female founder communities rallied behind us in ways social media never could. My women entrepreneur friends shared the campaign in newsletters, on social media, and even backed it financially. Nearly 50% of our sales came directly from community support.

Fun behind-the-scenes story: we had planned to use Meta ads to promote the campaign, but my Meta Business account had been hacked years ago. To this day, I still can’t get back in. At first, I thought it was a setback; but it turned out to be a blessing. Instead of throwing money at ads, I leaned into community, and it worked!

Takeaway: Invest in authentic communities. Whether it’s founder groups, niche memberships, or local networks, community support is more powerful than passive clicks.

Connections: Visibility Through Relationships

Connections got me access to trusted visibility, the kind that brands pay four- and five-figures for through sponsorships. From podcast guest spots to speaking on stages, most of my visibility opportunities came from warm introductions.

Case in point: I attended my first Women Who Network event in Toronto. I DM’d the host to ask about a giveaway opportunity; no response. Instead of taking it personally, I reached out to our mutual friend Hannah Schwartz, a business coach known for her motto: “It pays to be connected.” Hannah introduced us, and not only did I get the giveaway, but I was invited to lead my first in-person journaling workshop. That workshop positioned me as a leader, gave me a platform to talk about the Female Founders Journal, and generated sales; all without ad spend.

Takeaway: Nurture connections and don’t be afraid to ask for introductions. Warm intros often lead to opportunities that cold pitching can’t.

Conversations: One-on-One Outreach That Converts

So often we think posting to the masses is the way to generate sales. But I’ve found one-on-one conversations fast-forward the process.

In January, I made a list of all my contacts; phone book, WhatsApp, Facebook friends, LinkedIn connections, and started emailing each person. Some outreaches turned into bulk sales, some into referrals, and most didn’t respond at all. And that’s okay. Every outreach strengthened my rejection muscle and built confidence.

Takeaway: Don’t underestimate the power of direct outreach. A simple DM, email, or voice note can lead to sales faster than a polished social media campaign.

Why Organic Growth Shapes a Stronger Brand Story

Looking back, I realize that being “locked out” of Meta ads forced me to build Pearl Spark Pages in a way that’s more aligned with my vision. Community, connections, and conversations aren’t just strategies, they’re the foundation of a brand story I’ll be proud to tell years from now.

And I’m not alone. Brands like Canva, HubSpot, and Sephora’s Beauty Insider community scaled massively through organic strategies. They prove that organic growth isn’t just possible; it’s powerful.

Which “C” Will You Lean Into?

Organic growth takes time, persistence, and patience. But it builds a business rooted in trust, relationships, and authenticity.

Founder-to-founder, I’ll say this: you don’t need ads to grow. You need people with whom you have meaningful relationships.

So, which of the 3 Cs, community, connections, or conversations, will you lean into this month? Comment on my LinkedIn post to let me know!
